I live in Co.Louth and my family name is Rhattigan (other spellings include Rattigan, Ratigan, Raddigan etc.).  I spent a year researching the family tree and finished it in 2009. The family originally lived in Galway in a place called Musicfield and also in other parts of the west.

If you are gathering a data base of family trees / information I would be happy to forward the tree that I have completed.  I know that many of the family emigrated to the USA and Canada around the late 1800's.

Regards,

Fiona O'Murchu

  • Hi Fiona,

Thanks so much for your kind offer. We are going to build in functioality to the site that will allow people to create family trees in the (near) future. Perhaps when we have that done, we could use yours as an exemplary sample.

  • The Rhattigan tree that I researched goes back to approx. c1800.  The surnames of Mc Goldrick and Connors are also on the tree.

Some of the people on this tree include:

Margaret Rhattigan b1853 - married Peter Bourke of Newtown Ballindine.

Fr. William Rhattigan b1850 - Burrish, irishtown.  He went to Minnesota USA from 1890 -1907 and then returned to Ireland.  He served in many parishes and was instrumental in building the church on Inishboffin island.

His brother Patrick Rhattigan married Annie and emigrated to Minnesota, Minneapolis.

James Rhatigan b1862 - Parish of Addergoole, townland of Gortnagunned, Barony of Dunmore, Musicfield, Galway.

John Rattigan b1863 - same as above.

Mary Rhatigan b1865 - same as above.

Michael Rattigan b1867 - same as above.

James Rattigan b1871 - same as above.

Celia Rhatigan b1875 married David Mc Walter - farmed land in Garrymore, Coughans Hill near Tuam.

Margaret (Maggie) Rhatigan b1876 (married name O'Regan) teacher on Innishboffin island.

Thomas Rhattigan b1877 - Parish of Addergoole, townland of Gortnagunned, Barony of Dunmore, Musicfield, Galway.

    Andrew McGoldrick b1858 - Sligo
