  • Dear wilbsmeltz:

    Thank you for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board.  Unfortunately, the dates pre-1800 are often very difficult to research due to lack of records.

    Having said that, I will forward your query to several of our Galway volunteers who may be able to assist you or offer some further guidance with your research.

    Kind regards,

    Jane

  • Hello wilbsmeltz;

    My name is Clare Horgan I am a volunteer for the Claregalway area in Co. Galway.

    Like Jane said earlier it can be very difficult to find out about ancestors pre-1800's or late due to lack of records kept and lost here in Ireland. I hope some of below is helpful to you in your search for ancestors.

    See the link below to townlands.ie, which is very helpful to find out information on all townlands in Ireland. Below find the search for Eyrecourt in Co. Galway, it is as a DED (District Electoral Division) and is the name of two townlands in that DED.

    https://www.townlands.ie/search/?q=eyrecourt

    The town looks like it is in the townland of Townspark, might help with your search.

    I did a little research for the surname Armstrong in Eyrecourt, Co. Galway

    Unfortunately, The NLI does not have any registers available for this parish.

    There was Mary Armstrong listed in the town on Market Street, in the Griffith Valuations from 1840's to the 1850's

    Information to give

    Armstrong | Mary | Galway | Parish=Donanaghta

    I found a link to old pictures of Eyrecourt.

    If you wish to contact me for help and guidance, I would be only delighted to help.

    My email is claregalway@irelandxo.com

    Best of luck
