My name is Susan Godfrey and I live in Virginia in the United States. I am trying to find information on my ancestors. My grandmother was Margaret Francis. Her brother was John. Her sisters were Honor (Nora), Helen (Nellie), Catherine, Mary, Bridget, and Winifred. Their parents were Patrick Francis and Bridget O"Brien. They were married February 27, 1862 and my information indicates the parish/district as Castlegar and the township as Menlo. Nellie and Margaret and Bridget immigrated to the States and Bridget may have returned to Ireland. I can be reached at gigi4@comcast.net.

Castlegar is a village and parish in County Galway, Ireland, located just outside of the city of Galway. It extends from Lough Corrib across to Merlin Park by the old Galway-Dublin road. The annual Galway Races are held at Ballybrit Racecourse in Castlegar Parish.
The name Castlegar is derived from the Irish words "Caislean Gearr". This mean "Short Castle". The small Castlegar Castle, in the middle of the parish, was a guest or "short stay" castle for the Blake family's Menlo Castle.

Hanora(nora) Francis - god parents William Francis and Mary Flynn. born 1867 -07-104. Nellie Francis - god parents Savage Butler Williams and Mary Flynn born 1867-08-055. Bridget Francis - god parents Thomas Craven and Honor Craven born 1870 - 01 -296. Winnie Francis - god parents ? born 1873-11-237. Kate Francis - god parents Patrick Mullins and Mary Francis born 1876 - 11 -168. John Francis - god parents Patrick Mullins and Mary Glynn born 1879 - 09-079. Margaret Francis - god parents Thomas Francis and Kate Francis born 1882-12-17 He does know some Francis families in Castlegar / Menlo.
