A special seminar has been organised for Saturday November 19th on the Mountbellew Work House, its history and evolution, at the workhouse which is now the home for Colaiste an Creagain, formerly St Jarlaths Vocational School, Mounbellew.
Talks include
Máirín Doddy - 'The architecture of the Workhouse',
Christy Cunniffe - 'post Workhouse usage around the country',
Mattie Kilroy - 'The evolution of Mountbellew from Workhouse to School house' and
Paula Kennedy and Kathleen Connolly who will look at the assisted emigration of a group of Mountbellew girls to Australia in 1853-54 'The Palestine Bride Ship Project'
The conference will start at 10:15 AM and will finish by 3:00 PM.
The seminar is open to the public with a voluntary donation to cover costs . Teas / Coffees / Sandwiches and a Tour of the grounds are included.
