Our Great Grandfather John Conroy, born April 10, 1849 in Ireland came to the United States around 1868 and married Bridget Malone in Hartford Connecticut on Dec 4, 1870.  The Hartford, Connecticut Catholic Church records list witnesses to that wedding as Martin and Bridget Conroy.  I believe that Martin is an older brother, or possibly the father to John.  By searching your archives, I am able to locate a baptism for John Conroy dated April 28, 1849. This baptism took place in Rosmuc and the parents are Martin Conroy and Ellen McCormack.  

Also, the first born child to John and Bridget Conroy was named, Martin (who sadly passed at birth)

This seems pretty conclusive to me, but wanted someone more familiar with Irish genealogy to confirm.

    I looked at Roots Ireland from 1844-1854 in the Rosmuc parish records and found the 1849 record for John Conry but there were no other siblings in that time period. Baptismal records for Rosmuc parish start in 1840 and here is a link to the register http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0636  

    To answer your question, I think the record you found is likely the correct record. I looked at later Conry baptisms in Rosmuc and there was an 1857 Bridget Conry baptismal record. The parents were Martin Conry and Bridget Thornton and they lived in the village of Rosmuc. ( John's baptismal record also showed Rosmuc). One theory is that Martin (the father) and Bridget also emigrated and were the witnesses at the wedding.

    I am very grateful for your quick and interesting response.  Over the past year, I have been watching the Ireland Reaching Out Program.  I have written a couple of times, but you are the first to respond to my question.  Thank you!!!  I like your theory about Martin and Bridget being the parents.  It is possible and I will explore it further.  Is "Ireland Reaching Out" creating a DNA database?   My husband is the Conroy and we had his DNA tested, but so far there has not been any close matches.

    Are there any Conroys who still live in Rosmuc?  We are very interested in seeing Ireland and of course, if possible, we would be very interested in meeting cousins.  Looking forward to your response.

    Here is a link to the online Irish phone book http://www.eirphonebook.ie/#   search for Conroys in Galway and use the Residential Tab. I got 82 responses and looked at the first 20 and there was one record in Rosmuc. Our privacy rules prevent us from sharing personal data directly.

    We try to respond to as many messages as possible and actually have a 90% + response rate. Sorry we did not get back to you on your earlier messages. We do not have a DNA data base at this time. I can't tell if you took the Y-DNA test or autosomal. if you took the autosomal test, you may want to explore Gedmatch  www.gedmatch.com
