I have a death certificate for my great grand father, TIMOTHY G. SPILLANE. Born in Bethlehem, PA in 1890 and died in 1963 in PA. His father is listed as PATRICK SPILLANE born in Ireland. According to Ancestry.com, Patrick was born in 1844 in Ireland. Doesn't say exactly where in Ireland. Also Ancestry has listed a "Catherine Katie Brasnan Bresnahan Brosnan" as Patrick's wife. I found a marriage record in Castleisland, Kerry, Ireland on March 5th, 1878 for Patrick and Catherine. His father is listed as JEREMIAH SPILLANE and her father is listed as CORNELIUS BROSNAN. Catherine's death certifcate list her birth is May,1 1860 in Ireland. She was listed as Catherine Spillan. No "e" at the end. She died on Nov. 6, 1909 in Bethlehem, PA. It doesn't list her father or her mother or her husband.

Also a 1910 PA census shows that Patrick Spillane was a widow, emigrated in 1880 from Ire. and his children lived with him

ELLEN "NELLIE" SPILLAN born 1885

CORNELIUS PATRICK SPILLANE born 1888

TIMOTHY G SPILLANE born 1890

A 1920 census in PA shows that PATRICK SPILLANE emigrated in 1883 from Ire., became "naturalized" in 1888 and lived with his daughter, NELLIE "DUMMNERLING"?

Any help would be GREATLY apprieciated!

Thank you, Nicole

  • Hi Nicole

Given that I can't find any matches for your Spillanes & Brosnans on rootsireland I suspect they were from Kerry.

If there is a Castleisland parish on the site I suggest you try that otherwise repost with Kerry rather than Ireland in the heading.

The Tithe Applotments (free online) have some Brosnans in Catleisland, Kerry 1827 including a Cornelius so when you visit Ireland you can see where they lived.

There are 44 Spillanes but I couldn't see any in Castleisland.

The Irish Census (free) has 136 Brosnans & 2 Spillanes in the 1901 Census in Castleisland. There are 144 & 0 in 1911.
The Irish phone book has 9 Brosnans & 1 Spillane in Castleisland so if all else fails maybe you could drop them a line.
