My great, great, great grandparents John and Mary (O'Dowd) O'Connor left Ireland for Canada in 1847 with seven children. They were from Dingle, I believe from the Annascaul area. John is recorded as having died at sea in records at Grosse Isle Quebec. Mary continued on to Ennismore, near Peterborough Ontario, most likely to meet with O'Dowd relatives who had been there since the early 1820s. She and her children were very successful in their new lives; her daughter Catherine was the mother of Bishop Scollard of North Bay Ontario.
I know nothing about their families in Ireland and have no idea where or how to continue my search. Any information would be appreciated.

Hi Marie
this link, I have already been and had a look for Mary O'Dowd - Kerry area enter John O'Connor taking into consideration they had to drop the O' from their surnames amongst other things the spelling was not necessarily how it was spelt today, do click on the blue writing to see the details as transcribed that survived
Good Luck
