O'CONNELL AND PRENDEVILLE—29th July, 1915, at St. John's R.C. Church, Tralee, with Nuptial Mass by the Rev, Father Lyne, C.C, John D.O'Connell, v Solicitor, Tralee, second son of Daniel O'Connell, Acres,Aunascaul, to Hanna Mary Angela (Joan) only daughter of Patrick Prendeville _Lismoie, Tralee. No cards.

FR. MARTIN O'CONNELL, son of the late Daniel and Mrs. HannahO'Connell, Ballinagrown, Inch, Annascaul, Pastor of St. Anne's Church, Potterville, aged 48, died suddenly in Hanford, where, he was vitising. He was to have left next day for a six weeks' visit home td Ireland and to Spain.

He was educated at St. Brendan's, Killarney; St. John's, Waterford and continued his studies at Camarilla, Los Angeles, where he was ordained on December 2(5, 1946. Fr. Martin was assistant priest in _Bakersficld when the disastrous earthquake occurred in 1952.

He is survived by his brothers, Jim and Dan (Ballinagrown), Patrick (England) and sisters, Miss Marv O'Connell (Inch), Mrs Bridie O'Connor (Dingle), Mrs. Nellie _McGilly (London), Miss Hannah O'Connell(London), Mrs. Dora McQuirk (Dublin) and Mrs . Nora Mitchell (Rhodesia).

PROMINENT KERRY BOYS LEAVE FOR U.S.A.

Tralee, Tuesday. Mr. Maurice Galvin, BaHyseedy_, Tralee, and Mr. Peter O'Connell, Acres, Aunascaul, have left Tralee for Cobh en route for the U.S.A. "Mossie" Galvin, who played with the Juniors in the Semi-Final last Sunday, took a prominent parfe in the National struggle for years past and was captured during the Civil War and sentenced to a term of Penal Servitude. Peter O'Connell, also an outstanding member of the I.R.A., was on active service during both the Anglo-Irish and Civil Wars. In the latter he was captured in arms and sentenced to death which sentence was eventually commuted to one of 10 years' Penal Servitude.

Hi There,

My name is Deirdre Stuart. Bridget Dowling & Daniel O'Connell of Acres were my great grand parents. My Mums mother died when she was just 6 months old (Mum is now 85) and her grandmother, Bridget, brought my my and her sister Mary up, along with my Mums father, Patrick.

My Mums name is Bridie(Bridget) O'Connell, named after her grandmother,  Bridget Dowling.

I just came accross your post which is now two years old when I was googling about my Mums uncle Peter, so I hope that you're still connected to the IRO website !

I'm so very very happy to hear from you.  Bridget Dowling O'Connell was the older sister of my grandmother, Catherine Dowling Foley.  I believe that Catherine was the youngest of ten siblings.  She was born in Minard West on July 3. 1879, and emigrated to the US around 1897.  I have the exact date in my records.

I have actually connected with the great grandson of the oldest sibling, Thomas Dowling.  Thomas's great grandson, Michael Dowling, lives in Minard West.  We visited him and his wife Maureen in 2013. It was an emotional visit for me.  Although I never knew my grandmother because she died young (in 1928, leaving six children), my Dad had fond memories of his Mum which he regularly shared with us when we were children. And my Dad was very, very dear to me. I'd love to hear what you know about the rest of the family.  As far as I know, Catherine and her older sister, Nora, were the only two to come to the US.  Nora (unmarried) died in 1902 (of tuberuclosis or pneumonia) in Lawrence, Massachusetts.  I have her death certificate  and have visited her grave which is only about a half hour ride from my home.   Please let me know what other information you have about the family.  I'll send the names and birthdates of the ten siblings that I know of.
