Edmund Hayes & Catherine Connell were married in 1849 in Ballybunion. http://registers.nli.ie/pages/vtls000634243_304

One of their children, Patrick C. Hayes, moved to Minnesota and married Catherine Shea in 1886.  Later the family moved to Red Deer, Alberta, Canada.  After Catherine's death in 1925, Patrick moved with his youngest son, David.  Patrick died in 1930 and is buried in Galey cemetery according to an online resrouce.

Edmund and Catherine Hayes are living with their son John and his family, also in Beale, in the 1901 Irish Census.  If I have the right records, Catherine died in 1901 and Edmund in 1908. The other children of Catherine and Edmund were Mary (two), Joanna and Catherine.

Recent DNA matches have shown a relationship to both sides of this family.

Catherine Shea is the daughter of Timothy Shea, originally of Dromtarrife, who was a brother to my gg grandmother  This seemed like the logical DNA connection to descendants of Catherine and Patrick.

The surprise was when my dad's first cousin, an O'Connell, also matched Catherine and Patrick's granddaughter. This sent me back in the matches tree to find another connection.  In the family, it is only known that John Galvin O'Connell was from Co. Kerry. He was born about 1829.  His uncle, Maurice Gallivan/Galvin was from Galey and it is presumed that his sister is John G. O'Connell's mother--her name is unknown.  I have a stronger than expected DNA match to a descendant of Maurice's brother.  The match lives in Galey.  The Gallivan records are in Ballybunion.

When John G. first came to the USA, he settled in Delaware County, Ohio.  I believe he had a brother there, David O'Connell. I do match a descendant of David.  I am awaiting the results of another descendant of David's to see if he matches me, my dad or his1st cousin. David O'Connell married a Mary Hayes in 1853 in Delaware County, Ohio. I do not know if there is any connection to the Edmund Hayes line.  They did however name one of their sons David Edmund.

John Hayes (mentioned above) married Catherine Carmody in 1893 in Ballybunion. Catherine's father's name was John according to the record.  They had about 11-12 children.  Some names associated with the family and serving as sponsors are Carmody, Hayes, Wren, Sheahan, Daly, Moriarty and McNamara. Most of the children only had godmothers.

If I have the correct record, Catherine, daughter of John, married Edmond Shanahan in 1922.  A son Thomas married Annie B. who died in 1984.

My query is about Catherine Connell married to Edmund Hayes.  From this info, is anyone able to place Catherine in an O'Connell family?

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The RC parish records for Ballybunion http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0651  start in 1831 and based on her age in the 1901 census, Cathereine Connell was likely born before records are available.

Just to be sure, I searched www.irishgenealogy.ie  for Catherine Connell baptismal records before 1835 in Ballybunion and got no record.

One other point, Hayes family lived in Acres townland in Kilconly civil parish in the 1901 census. Beale was the District Electoral Division.
