I'd like to first of all find the actual birth town of my great great great grandfather, Florence Donoghue, who I know was born in County Kerry, Ireland and was rumored to have been from Cahirciveen. Secondly, I'd love to discover who his parents were and thirdly, I'd be thrilled to meet living distant relations as well as see the land where my ancestor was from.

Florence Donoghue/Donahue was born about 1831/1834 in County Kerry.

The first record I have of him is in Oswego, Oswego, New York, USA in 1855 boarding with the Sullivan family.

He was married to Hanora O'Donoghue (born in Killaha, Kerry, Ireland 1840; parents John O'Donoghue and Margaret Shea) between the 25th of April and May of 1857 in St. Paul's in Oswego, NY, USA by Rev. Michael Kelly. Witnesses Jeremiah Donohoe & Honora Donohoe.

Naturalized in Oswego, NY, USA 15 Oct 1859

Donoghue, Matthew, laborer, Willow.
Donoghue, Daniel, laborer, Willow.
Donoghue, Mrs. widow, W. Fifth, n Ellen.
Donoghue, Jeremiah, laborer, Hamilton, n Fifth.
Donoghue, Timothy, laborer, c E. Seventh and Cayuga.
Donoghue, Dennis, laborer, 46 E. Seneca.
Donoghue, Mrs. Ann, widow, 48 E. Seneca,
Donoghue, Patrick, laborer, 94 E. Seneca.
Donoghue, F. laborer, 94 E. Seneca.

Take note that there are 7 male Donoghue's listed. I believe the F. Donoghue is my Florence ... and perhaps the other 6 could be his brothers. It was rumored that Florence was the 7th son of a 7th son and that he had magical powers to heal Scrofula.

He died 8 Nov 1894 in Oswego, Oswego, NY, USA

Florence and Hanora's children were as follows:

Thank you for any help! I really hope to find some relatives and travel to Ireland to visit and see the paths of my ancestors. I am a direct descendant of Florence's being paternally Donahue but my dad was adopted at a young age by his step father so our surname changed from Donahue to Bertolero. I did the YDNA test through www.FamilyTreeDNA.com and I can compare test values with anyone interested (R1b1b2). I'm also part of the O'Donoghue Society.

I would also love to find living relatives from my great great great grandmother, Hanora O'Donoghue.

  • I have just started researching my family roots. My father's name was Daniel Patrick Donoghue He was born in Somerville Mass USA. My Grandfather was Daniel Francis Donoghue He was born in Catherdaniel Kerry Ireland. His birthday was March 18 1881 although many reacords have other dates & locations. He married Bridget Theresa Sullivan also born in Kerry Ireland her birth date is probably around 1888. I have not track her any where she died in 1944. They married on April 30,1916 in Watertown Mass. They brought their family up in Cambridge Mass. My grandfather's parents were Patrick Daniel Donoghue & Catherine Leary. I know at one time there were 10 children. I believe 2 died fairly young. He has bothers who came to this country Michael.  (Michael at some point change the spelling to Donahue). I believe he was the only one who did that. Patrick, Timothy, John & Thomas. Sisters were Ellen, Abbie, Mary, I have not trace them all over to the USA Just Michael. In several records it mention Rath Catherdaniel I am not sure what that means. ANy INfo ANy relation?

  • Regarding Hanora born in Killaha in 1840, townland listed as Killeen, I have Donoghues in my adjoining townland of Inch dating to 1820.  Great chance that these Donoghues are connected. I checked marriage record for parents and lists Inch. Usually only lists brides address, so that is confusing.
