Hi: My wife's ancestors emigrated to Massachusetts USA during the days of the Great Famine. I've been able to locate a few of their birth records and they all say the family came from "Ballymore" in Dingle. However, I've discovered there is more than one townland in County Kerry with that name. The first is in the Civil Parish of Cloghane, not far from the town of Brandon. Then there's East Ballymore and West Ballymore in the Civil Parish of Kildrum not far from the town of Dingle.
I've attached a small document which will show you what I mean. Do you have any idea which townland the records are referring to?
Thanks for your help,
Kevin

Kevin:
The document did not attach. There are four townlands on the Dingle Peninsula that are possibilities. Ballymore townland in Cloghane civil parish Ballymore East and West in Kildrum parish and Ballymorereagh townland in Dingle civil parish.
Try again to attach the document and we will try to ascertain where your Ballymore is located.

Kevin/McCoy:
My guess is that Timothy Lyne and Bridget Neal lived in either Ballymore East or West in Kildrum civil parish. The Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Kildrum civil parish shows three O'Neill records in either Ballymore East or West. Their second son was Owen and I think he was named after Bridget's father Eugene shown in Ballymore West. (Owen and Eugene are the same). This is just a hunch based on available records.
Below are the Griffiths records for Kildrum and Dingle civil parishes

Kevin,
Many changes were made when Griffith's Mappers surveyed Ireland - c1840 - 1860. Names and areas were changed.
The parish map for Dingle - catholicparishregisters@nli.ie - National Library - has a large area, including Ballymorereagh.
If you open the map view on Ballymorereagh you will see what appears to be a hamlet named "Ballymore" and a piece of land named "Ballymore Point"
South of the townland
I have been unable to find a townland for this area, but I am wondering if this refers to the townlands of Ballymore East and West in Griffith's.
The Tithe Records for 1826 show Ballymorereagh in the parish of Dingle. - I have not found the Parish of "Kildrum" on catholic parish registers for County Kerry.
If you contact info@dingle-peninsula.ie you may get further information.
