In 1913 at the age of 26, my grandmother Annie Connelly married William Wells in St Dyfrigs Church Pontypridd (Wales), in the presence of Margaret and Ellen Brooks.  Annie remarried 6 years later in 1919 to Joseph Burton.

The years from 1913 up until she passed away at the age of 59 in 1948, Annie lived her life in Caerphilly South Wales.

On her marriage certificate Annie father's name is Patrick Connelly and she says he is deceased. Her second marriage was to Joseph Burton  It is strongly believed she came from Ireland. I would dearly love to find her place of birth, With such limited information it is proving very difficult.

1913 Baptism records from St Helens Catholic Church Caerphilly have James O'shea as my dad's godfather, I have been unable to find any clues about James either which perhaps might have taken me a bit futher with my research.

Annie and William had three children:- William George 1913, Molly 1916, Leonard 1918. From her second marriage to Joseph Burton there were another two:- Nora 1920 and Joseph James in 1921.

From his millitary records, I know William Wells came from Teddington in Middlesex.  Regards Allen

  • Hi there,

Thank you very much for your query. Have you checked the National Archives (UK) for additional information about Annie? You should speak to other family members, as they may have information or letters you are not aware of. This often happens in families - one member know a lot of family detail, while the rest of the family are unaware. Letters or other documents (certificates, memorial cards, etc.) might contain other clues. Even to know the province where her family came from would help narrow it down somewhat.

    Kind Regards,

  • Hi Sinead.

Many thank you very much for responding. I am up against it with my research on Annie. I have Annies marriage and death certificate neither leave any clues. I even have birth baptism records for my dad and his sister, my dads baptism record says his god father was James O'Shea, but I haven't found anything on James either.

Annie was only 59 when she died, my oldest living family members are 75 and 80, neither can recall anything about her. I have been to our local records office in search and didn't have any luck there either.

I still class my self as a novice with family history, you mentioned the National Archives, it would be great if you could advise me what records I should be looking into. From the little I know Annie must have been born around 1887.

    Kind Regards Allen

  • Hi Maureen.

Thank you very much for responding.

I am not to sure about Patrick and Honora at the moment because of the age.

Checking out the link for church records,I came across a baptism in 1887 for Anne Connelly father Patrick.

It took place in Dublin RC St Andrew the Address given was 34 Gloucester St.

It'll give me a little something to work on.

    Regards Allen.

  • Since my last visit to the forum I have received a little more information on my grandmother Annie Connelly

3 sisters, Mary, Alice and Kathleen Power moved to the South Gloucester Street area.

Mary Powers married Michael Connelly (Annies birth parents), and, Alice Powers married  Patrick Connelly.

It as now been confirmed her birth parents died early on and Patrick and Alice her aunt and uncle brought Annie and her sisters up from a very early age. It has been put forward that Annie left Ireland for England as a teenager.

Any additional information that would help me fill in the missing years and gain further information for me to obtain certificates would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance Allen
