Jermiah Kelleher was my 3 x great-grandfather born circa 1808 and died 05/02/1877.

Elizabeth (Herlihy) Kelleher was my 3 x great grandmother, born in 1811, no death date found.

I haven't been able to find their marriage details, but their first born son, my 2 x great-grandfather, John Kelleher, may have been born in County Kerry in 1833.

John married Anne Moynahan in Castleisland, County Kerry on 10/05/1860.

John and Anne emigrated to Australia, arriving on 20/09/1860.

Any assistance verifying some of this information would be appreciated.

Welcome back to Ireland Reaching Out!

The free site www.irishgenealogy.ie has Co. Kerry church records. I did not find the marriage record for Jeremiah and Elizabeth. Castleisland marriage records start in 1822 so likely the marriage occurred in another nearby parish where records do not go back to the 1820s. I located six baptismal records for children: Catherine July 10 1829 Maurcie August 9 1831 John October 8 1833 Honora March 16 1841 Elizabeth March 11 1844 Patrick April 9 1846  Note father's name was Dermot which is a variant for Jeremiah. Also, note that there was a gap between 1833 and 1841 so there may have been other children. Not sure if there is a gap in the Castleisland records.

Family lived in Clounagh or Claunagh according to the baptismal records.I did not locate a townland with that name possibly a local place name.

I did locate a death index record for an Elizabeth Keleher in the first quarter of 1871. This Elizabeth was 64 when she died. www.irishgenealogy.ie has images of death records starting 1878. We expect that images of records for 1864-1877 will be added in the near future.

  • Hi Leannne,

I don't have any further information about the Herlihy's, other than my 3 x great-grandmother, Elizabeth (Herlihy) Kelleher in my family tree. I have family trees in Ancestry (Lano1702) and My Heritage.

    My email is: stephen.lanigan3710@bigpond.com

If you have further information about her family, I would be pleased to receive it.

    Regards,

    Stephen Lanigan
