Looking for help finding the location Patrick O'Connor and Mary Breen were born and married and where they lived before moving to America about 1864.
Patrick was born in Kerry about 1821 and married Marry Breen according to his obituary (see attachment for obituary).
Patrick died 25 Sep. 1905 and Mary died 2 March 1912 both in Steele County, Minnesota, USA.
10 children (2 died very young)
Names of children I do know:
Julia A. E. O'Connor 187? - 1928
Mary Ellen O'Connor 1874 - 1861 m. John McGillicuddy 18 Jan 1905 (John was the son of Patrick McGillicuddy 1838 - 1919 & Ellen Coakley 1847 - 1906)
Peter O'Connor 1879 - 1959
Thomas Patrick O'Connor 18?? - 1903
__________
I believe there is a tie between the O'Connor and McGillicuddy families that began in Ireland but am unable to find it.
Any help would be very much appreciated. Any questions you have please post and I'll answer them as best I can. My family is McGillicuddy but I believe O'Connor is my thread to Ireland to find my own McGillicuddy family's whearabouts.
Thank you greatly,
Missi

Ellen O'Connor b 14/10/1869

Charles O'Connor b 23/12/1873

This is the only record where the names tie in that I could find, perhaps the names will ring a bell, there are very many records on the LDS site for your family name but I would be guessing without more detail.

Missi:
I've been searching the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie for church and civil records and not coming up with good leads. I did locate a Patrick Connor/Mary Breen couple who married in January 1866 in Glenbeigh/Glencar parish which contradicts the 1864 emigration date so not the correct record
I've been looking at the 1895 and 1905 Minnesota State census and the 1900 Federal census. The 1895 census has Patrick and Mary as age 65 and there are four children listed: Mary, Hannah, Peter and another female whose name I can't interpret. There is also a Thomas but he is listed as a cousin. Mary was the oldest and born in Minnesota around 1867.
Is it possible that Patrick and Mary married in Minnesota?

These are the church records to date, there are a number of marriages between Breen/O'Connor families and I think they are related, note the sponsers names for these births. I also came upon a record for a Mathew O'Connor b 13/9/1867 which is likely related , will try to find this record later.

Eileen:
I located that marriage record also. The Mary for that marriage was only 17 and Patrick was 22. Has to be a different couple. Also, children were born in Minnesota according to 1895 census.

Thank you Eileen and Roger!
I'm a wee bit worried that this information isn't the same family since there are too many girls listed. Patrick's obituary was from 1905 and it stated 4 girls and 6 boys.
But I've also done a bit more investigating on my end and the Steele County Minnesota Territorial Census from 1905 (link below from Ancestry) states that Patrick is only 78 which makes him born in 1827. So either his obituary is wrong saying he's 84 or the census is wrong. The census also states that Mary was 75 which makes her born in 1830. It also lists daughter Johanna "Hannah" as 24 which makes her born in 1881 and Peter as 26 born in 1883.

Eileen the townland is in the proper area of my McGillicuddy family so I'm going to plug in the names and dates and such into my Ancestry tree this weekend and see if we can get a tie to America from there and to the O'Connor family in Steele County, Minnesota.
I'll write again once I know more.
Thank you both so very, very much!

I've been able to gather more information about Patrick O'Connor and Mary Breen. No marriage information yet but I did find that they were living in Olmsted county Minnesota in June 1865 and the household included:
- Patrick
- Mary
- Mary #2
- John
- Bridgit
- Johanna
- Thomas
- Margaret
- Thomas #2
Julia E. A. (became a nurse and lived in Minneapolis and St. Paul most of her career/life) and Peter weren't born yet. From Olmsted county they moved to Steele county in 1895 and lived there until Patrick and Mary passed on.
Unfortunately the family you've found doesn't match the Patrick O'Connor and Mary Breen I'm looking for.
Is there any other information that might help us in searching for them in Ireland records? I've thought about contacting their church in Blooming Pairie, Minnesota to see if they have any old records that might tell exactly where in Kerry they came from.
Thank you so much for your time and research Eileen and Roger!

Missi:
Ages in 19th century census records were all over the map so no surprise that Patrick and Mary's ages were inconsistent.
Co. Kerry church records are on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie and the only Patrick Connor/Mary Breen marriage record was in 1866 which we already determined was not the correct record. As I mentioned earlier, is it possible they married in Minnesota?
There are too many Patrick Connor and Mary Breen baptismal records in Co. Kerry in the 1820s and 1830s to determine which ones may be for your ancestors.
