Hello

Am searching for great grandfather Edward/Edmund Walsh b abt 1845 in the area of Tuosist Kerry.  He immigrated to Penna. in 1860's.  His father was named either Edward or John. I looked at Griffith's Valuation for Tuosist and saw no Edward Walsh listed.

Edward b 1845 worked as a stonecutter in Philadelphia where he lived.    Living next door to him was a Michael Walsh b 1825 & married to Hannah O'Hara.  Michael worked as a boat/ship's carpenter.

Would appreciate any help in finding my great grandfather, Edward Walsh. Or any info on this Walsh family. Can anyone tell me about stonecutters living/working in Tuosist around that time. Not certain if Edward had those skills when he immigrated or if he became a stonecutter once in Philadelphia.  Also, are there Walsh families living in Tuosist today?  Thanks, Pat

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

www.irishgenealogy.ie is a free Irish government site which has Co. Kerry church records. I located an Edward Walsh baptismal record in 1844 and a sister Mary born in 1846.  I can't find a townland in Tuosist civil parish that is close to Rosseen or Rufseens.

  • Thank you so much for the Tuosist baptism record information for Edward Walsh!  What a great find.  May I ask if the 1901 Census for Tuosist Kerry is listed under another name?  I can't locate this census for Tuosist. Much thanks, Pat

  • Pat,

For a list of all Walsh Baptisms in Tuosist parish, go to https://goo.gl/cIfwkq. Margaret and Edward are listed at the top. The townland names are mispelled, and are probably todays Rusheen.

  • Thanks, Don Flinn, for the information you shared quite awhile back.  It is helpful now that I am again researching Walsh family in Tuosist/Kenmare.  I think I found the townland in question - if you look at the several messages above - and see your suggestion was the closest guess.  It is Rusheens near to Kenmare and listed, not in Tuosist Griffith's Valuation but in Kenmare GV.  There only two people are listed for this townland - a Thomas Gill and an Oliver Healy.  Since my relative's, Edward Walsh, baptism cert lists Maria Healy as his mother and Edward Walsh as his father and the Samuel lewis 1837 record notes that Tuosist and Kenmare shared RC places of worship I believe Rushhens and Oiver Healy are connected to my Walsh family. In Tuosist GV are 3 John Walshes -Clonee and Ardea - and in Kenmare GV a Michael Walsh is listed.  These are male names in our family.  Michael was a ship carpenter in Philadelphia/Edward a stone cutter there.  Again thanks for your help, Pat.
