Coghlanstown belongs to the Roman Catholic parish of Ballymore-Eustace and fortunately church records for the parish begin 1779 so you may be able to find James? birth record in the parish which would help confirm his birth there.

Most Catholic records are still held locally so it may be an idea to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance.
