My Grandfather David Scott Stewart, was born in Grunsha, Ouley, Down on May 11, 1887. In the April,1901 census, they lived in house #18, Grunsha, Ouley, Down. The family consisted of:
James Stewart Head of House a Road Contractor ; Mary Scott Stewart, wife
Mary Stewart, daughter, a dressmaker; William James Stewart, son, a laborer; Samuel Stewart, son, a laborer; David Scott Stewart, a laborer. Mary's brother, Thomas Scott, a tanner, also resided with them.
The landowner was Robert Reid.
I cannot find information about the family before this time. David went to Pittsburgh, PA. I was given to understand that his sister(s) sic moved to Motherwell, Scotland, but have not been able to verify this.
In the 1911 census, they lived in house #26 Ardarragh, Down, Newry, Ouley in the Constabulary District of Raithfriland.
Any information on my heritage would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your efforts

Hi Beverly,
Thanks for you message.
Prior to the census records, the main source of family history information in Ireland are church records. Have you tried looking at these? Most Catholic records are held locally. One website which may be of help to you is the irishtimes. Here they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Donaghmore parish follow this link:
For Church of Ireland records check :
http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42
http://www.nationalarchives.ie/
http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history/family_history_key_sources.htm
Also check www.irishgenealogy.ie/index.html Both Catholic and Church of Ireland records are currently being uploaded here free of charge. However, this is an ongoing project so not all records are available yet.
You could also try the two land rcords pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. Although these do not offer any real genealogical information, it may help you tie a family to a specific place within their timeframes. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith's Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Some other websites which may be useful to you are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
I hope that this helps.
Kind regards,
