Looking for birthplace/parish of Michael Grace bc1800 and family members; wife Roseanna (Dunn or McDonnely?) bc 1802; son James Grace bc1832; son Denis Grace bc1834; son Michael Grace bc 1840; son Andrew Grace bc 1844; daughter Roseanna Grace bc 1846; son William Grace bc 1848. These children were born in Ireland.

Left Ireland for U.S. 1851 or 1852.

Michael and Rose Anna had one more son, born in the U.S., Arthur Thomas b 7 June 1852; his baptismal record, dtd 20 June 1852, lists mother's maiden name as McDonnely.

Two passenger lists into New Orleans found that may be the family: (1) 16 January 1851 lists Michael bc1811, Rosa bc1816 and children John (not aware of a John in the family), Andrew, Rose and William; and (2) 26 December 1851 lists James, Denis and Michael (jr). Family lore says Arthur Thomas was born in Boston Harbor, but no record found of family entering U.S. in June 1852. New Orleans family would have been 17 months prior to Arthur's birth.

Found birth/baptismal records for children that might be this family in Swordlestown, Newbridge, Co. Kildare but mother's maiden name listed as Dunn/Dunne (not McDonnely), and no record for daughter Roseanna (or for a son named John).

  • Hi Rita

The closest match for a birth/baptism of Michael Grace 1802 on www.rootsireland.ie/ is 1802 in Limerick

    There are 3 matches if you search 1800 + - 3 years

You need to purchase credit to view the records on roots

I couldn't find the marriage or Roseanna's birth though.

  • Thanks for looking. I need to find the births of their children and work back to be sure any of these could be the correct people. I will make a note of these.

  • Hi R Grace. I too am researching this family, It is a different reason. My immediate Grace family that I am researching is I believe from County Tipperary area emigrating to Lucan, Biddulph Township, Ontario, Canada. Of that line my cousin Terrence(Terry) Grace after graduation from college moved from Michigan to St. Louis, Missouri area. It was there he met and married a Mary Phelps d/o Robert Phelps/ Margaret Kinealy. It is through Mary's lineage that the Graces you mentioned come from. I too have heard the family lore about Boston Harbor story but havent found anything in Boston area. I also found one of the New Orleans ship arrivals that you speak of. My reason for my research is to see if these 2 branches of Graces were related back in Ireland. Most of the settlers around the London/Lucan area of Ontario came from around Tipperary although I haven't had any luck confirming this. My mom also said at one time she thought she heard Kilkenny mentioned. I would be interested in sharing info if you wish. I can be contacted directly at marren86@comcast.net Thank you for your time.

  • Hello again I have also found a church record for the marriage of a Thomas Grace/Dolly McEvoy of April 20,1828 in Swordlestown, Newbridge, Kildare. The witnesses were Michael Grace & Roseanna Dunne. I figure this to be a brother of Michael Grace. There is also a Baptismal record for a Thomas s/o Thomas Grace/ Dolly McEvoy from April 2, 1838 in the same church records.
