Hello,

I know, the two most common surnames in the area!   I'm researching the Andrew O'Dwyer family of Churchfield.  Andrew's daughter Alice married Cornelius Ryan in 1824. Connor and Ally, (the  names recorded on their church marriage record), also lived in Goldengarden and Alleen after marriage.  After the famine Alice and Cornelius joined their children in New York State, Palmyra area.  Not all the children seem to have left Ireland.  I found no record of their son Michael coming over, but did find this intriguing article--

Reynolds Newspaper Sunday, April 22, 1894
News wanted of Michael Ryan, son of Michael and Johanna (Dwyer) Ryan of Goldengarden, Anacarty, Tipperary who left Ballychoohy, near Tipperary in 1888.  Last heard from about five or six years ago, was then a city policeman in St. Louis.. Heard lately he was found dead outside the city.  Any information will be thankfully received by his sister Mary Ryan, care of the Editor of Reynolds’s Newspaper.  American papers please copy.

I think this could be a son of Michael and grandson of Connor and Ally, Goldengarden was not exactly a big place.  And where is" Ballychoohy"?

Best Regards,

Allie

  • Hello Allie,

I can't help you right now with your query but my mother is from Annacarty-Donohill and all the family graves are in Kilpatrick. I am meeting people there all the time as I research my own family Loughman-Corcoran (and of course, there are intermarriages with Ryans and Dwyers) so I will ask around next time I'm in the area which wil be in early 2013.

    regards
