Looking for any descendants in Ireland with the surname Sourke--it is very unusual, mostly found in County Kildare and in townlands of Moone, Castledermot, and near Crookstown. My 3-great grandfather William Sourke married Anne Whelan in Castledermot on 27 Nov 1828. His parents were John Sourke and Margaret Cranny, I believe from the townland of Moone. Anne was from the townland of Belan and died circa 1832. William then married Ann Nolan in the Crookstown RC Chapel about 1835. They immigrated to the U.S., arriving in New York in September 1849 andwent to directly to Wisconsin. Or if there are any ideas regarding the origin of the surname Sourke/ Sork I would love to hear them. In the U.s. they gradually changed the name to Rork, then O'Rourke.
