The subscription site Roots Ireland has Naas Church of Ireland records back to the late 1600s. I saw eight Scott baptismal records with parents John and Anne: Thomas 1840 George John 1844 Anne Jane 1846 Samuel Henry 1848 Isaac 1851 Emily 1853 Eliza Harriet 1857 Harriet Elizabeth 1860. 

Roots Ireland did not have a John Scott in 1807. There was an 1816 record in Naas. See below.

Thank you so much for the quick response, and the research you have done on my behalf.  I had seen the record for John Scott whose parents were John and Hannah on Roots Ireland, however was unable to verify that.  I also dismissed that birth record because my ancestor's gravestone suggests he was born circa 1807-1808.  Until I saw the gravestone, I initially estimated the birth date at about 1815-16, closer to the birth date of his wife Anne who was born in 1817.

Also, there were two John Scotts in  Naas according to one of the directories - my ancestor (nailor), and another who was a veterinarian.  Probate records can also be found for both.  John Scott, the veterinarian, died in 1886 if I recall correctly, so the birth and death dates for both are reasonably close, and makes things a bit more confusing.  The Will of my John Scott was not probated until after the death of his wife in 1898.

I am aware of the children Thomas, George John (my great grandfather) Anne Jane, Samuel Henry and Eliza Harriet, and only learned of Isaac and Harriet Elizabeth from the headstone.  Your message is the first I have heard of Emily!   Anne Jane never married, and still lived in the house on Friary Rd. as at the 1911 census.  This gives me others to look for, and I will try Roots Ireland again, although in the past I haven't found it particularly user friendly.

Thank you for the birth and baptism dates for Emily.  I really appreciate it, however there appears to be an error in the dates - it is said she was born in July 1853 and baptised in February 1853.  Should these dates be reversed, or should the baptism date be February 1854 ?

I have done a little more research on her, and located a marriage in Naas in 1879.  Her middle name was Fisher (mother's maiden name), and she married William Muir of Glasgow.  He was a "poor law clerk" in Glasgow, and they went back to Scotland following the marriage.   They can be found in the 1881 and 1891 censuses, and by 1891 they had four children.  William appears in the 1901 census, with the four children and 1 servant, while Emily Fisher Mair (sic) is living elsewhere "by her own means" .

Roger, you were kind enough a few months ago to send me a LOT of information about John Scott and family in Naas, including names and birth dates of several of his children including my great-grandfather. The mine of information was from Roots Ireland, but you indicated there was no birth/baptism for my John Scott, circa 1807-8.  As indicated earlier, I do not believe his  parents were John Scott and Hannah, the parents of the John Scott born in 1816, a veterinary surgeon I believe.  Also, that John Scott died approximately 4 years after my 2nd great grandfather.  

As I feel I have exhausted all available online resources, I am looking into hiring a professional genealogist with knowledge of Co. Kildare, and Naas in particular.  I was wondering if you may know of someone in the area who would be able to access locally held resources.  I came across what appeared to be a good site, but one had to download a research form and submit it by mail.  A bit unwieldy in this age of online services and email.

I have quite a bit information about the family, address, occupation, marriage details (on which, unfortunately the parents' names were not recorded).  My brick wall is whether or not John Scott and/or Anne Fisher were born in Nass, or even in Ireland for that matter.
