I'm looking for more information on Robert Bull and Dorothy Bassett, particularly their forefathers. Here's a summery of what I know:
- Robert was born about 1736 in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny, and died there on 1 Jan 1791.
- Dorothy was born about 1745 and died about 1850 in Thomastown.
- Robert's father was William, and William's parents were James Bull and Jane Stewart (I have no names or places).
- Robert and Dorothy's children include (all were born in Thomastown): James (b. about 1772, emmigrated to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada), William (b. 1775, died 17 nov 1850), John (b. about 1777), Chistoper (b. about 1780), Jane (b. about 1781, died 16 Aug 1874 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada), and Rober (b. 27 Aug 1782, died 6 Mar 1841 in Shelbyville, Kentucky, USA)
Everything I know about the family is posted to my website: Robert Bull and Dorthy Bassett.
Any additional information is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Good Morning
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in replying to your message.
As you can see from the link below, Thomastown is a Civil Parish in Co. Kilkenny:
Records for the corresponding Roman Catholic Parish of Thomastown begin in 1782. As this is the case it seems that these records do no begin early enough for your search for Robert?s baptism. You could have a look at the Tithe Applotment Books 1823-1837 for mention of Robert?s father: http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
Unfortunately, the Tithes only give the name of the head of household, but any information gathered is useful particularly as there is a vacuum with availability of parish records.
Some Thomastown graveyard records are also available on this site; http://www.from-ireland.net/photography/thomastown-graveyard-photograph…
There are some places where you can search online, however these websites do not have complete collections and many do not cover the period after 1900:
www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.
www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ have begun a project to upload Irish church records to their site free of charge. However so far only Counties Dublin, Kerry, Carlow and parts of Cork have been covered.
Some other websites that may be helpful are:
The National Archives of Ireland: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/ - you can search the 1901/1911 Census on the National Archives page too
The National Library of Ireland: http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search:http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland: http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
Irish Times: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/index.htm
Irish Genealogy Tool kit: http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/
Remember to post any new information that you find here. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Best of luck with your search
