I found this 1868  civil birth index record for a Michael Doolan in the Castlecomer registration district. You can get a copy of this record (which will show his parents names) from the GRO. A copy costs around 4 euros. Follow these instructions.

Go to this link http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx In the middle of the page there are links for birth, marriage or death certificates. Hit the link for the form you want. You will likely get a screen asking for a User Name and Password. (This is a program bug that the GRO has to correct). Hit cancel and the appropriate form should come up. Print the form and complete the requested information. Also provide the information from the index record--quarter/year of the event. registration district and the volume and page number where the event is recorded. Make sure you ask for a copy which costs around 4 euros. ( A cert costs closer to 20 euros). You can also ask the GRO to e-mail the copy back to you.

I have Irish births and baptism's 1864 to 1880 on CD, the record that Roger has given you is 1st October 1868 in Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny. Father Daniel mother Margaret Brennan, I was looking for Michael's marriage and death record in Australia to confirm his parents. Michael had only one brother Thomas born 1866.

Thank you ever so much for taking an interest in my ancestry quest. Michael married Margaret Eliza Louisa Black in Albury, New South Wales, Australia on 14 September 1892. Michael may have died in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on 25 April 1941.

Are you able to help with any more info on Michael's parents, Daniel and Margaret - where they were born, where they married,  where they died and maybe their parents names. What did Daniel Doolan do for a living?

Do you know when Michael left Ireland for Australia? What details do you have? Did his brother Thomas go with him? Did his parents go with him?

I have not been able to find any details about my ancestry in Ireland and have struck a big brick wall.
