I need help in identifying the place of residence for one of my Kilkenny ancestors, Mary Reynolds.  I have found her baptism record from 19 Apr 1829 in Castlecomer.  The right hand column of the baptism register lists a place of residence which I am unable to decipher.  I am attaching a snip of the entry in question and any help with the location in the right hand column would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

  •  Hi Bob,

I was attracted to your email query due to the fact that I am a Brophy descendant from Castlecomer, Co Kilkenny.  I took a guess and used Google Maps and found Moneenroe Church, Cloneen, Moneenroe, Co Kilkenny, 5 km NE of Castlecomer on the N78.

    I hope this helps.

    Cheers, Simon Willis.

  • Definitelley Moneenroe.  The PP Clogh looks after this area as well as Clogh.  Fr. Tobin 00353862401278. Good luck.

  • Thank you Simon & Nuala for this information.  I believe Mary and her three older brothers, John, Timothy, and William Reynolds may have been among the families recruited by the Payne brothers in the late 1840's to work in their coal mines in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.  Moneenroe would seem to be a logical place for the Payne's to find miners.  Thanks again.
