I am seeking information on Nicholas Lawless, born in 1810 and his wife Mary (nee Walsh) who was born in 1814 and they married in 1836. They left Castlecomer around 1841, travelled to Plymouth and boarded the ship "Geo Fyffe" in April 1841 and arrived in Melbourne, Australia on the 23rd July 1841. Are there any records of this couple in Castlecomer and are there any of their relations living in Castlecomer ??

Any help you can give to me will be much appreciated.

Sincerely,

Barry Hill,

Geelong, Australia

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The couple married in January 1837 in the Muckalee RC parish just to the north of Castlecomer. Looks like Nicholas was from Muckalee.I did not locate a baptismal record for Nicholas and there were many.many Mary Walsh baptismal records.

  • Hi Roger,

Many many thanks for your quick and detailed response to my Message Board query.  Nicholas had four brothers, Patrick (Born1820), James (Born 1826), Martin (Born 1829) and Richard (Born 1833). Patrick married Catherine Mulhall (Born1819) in Ireland. Martin married Bridget Campion (Born1833) in Ireland and Richard married J. Farrell (Born 1829) also in Ireland. Nicholas and Mary left their first two children Martin (Born 1838) and Mary (Born 1839) in Ireland whilst they travelled to Autralia in 1849. Are there any references to these other realitives in your Parish ??

    Once again many thanks.

    Sincerely,

    Barry

Baptismal records for Muckalee RC parish start in 1840 so no records would exist for the Lawless brothers. I searched for the marriage records for the three brothers but could not locate good records.
