I am desparate for ant information on my great Grandmother born Margaret TOBIN, married as Margaret Mary Tobin born in 1872, she had a brother James TOBIN born 1873 who married as James Aloysius Tobin, I'm not sure if their middle names were names from their first holy communion.  I have been unable to find any records but recently found a Margaret and a James with same birth year in Castlecomer, the mother was shown as Mary Kealy,  I'm not familiar with the area, but the 1911 census shows they were born in Kilkenny. Their fathers name was Martin Tobin and by the time Margaret married in 1898 at St Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Blackburn he was already deceased. Both Margaret and James married a brother and sister in Blackburn, Lancashire, Margaret came over from Ireland and was a servant girl for Daniel Thwaites the Brewers, I have written to Thwaites but they have no records.  My gran was names Elma after Daniel Thwaites wife who was called Elma Yerbrugh.  If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be extremely grateful, I have been researching since 1997 and have hit a brick wall.  I know where my great Gran is buried but gave no information on her birth. I should add I know they are from Kilkenny from the last census, as I can only find siblings with huge right names in Castlecomer I'm guessing this is the correct parish.  By the time the 1921 census appears both had died in Blackburn, Lancashire. Thanks in advance, Karen

  • Karen there is a Marriage for a Martin Tobin Registration District Kilkenny in 1869. Volume 18 Page 415. You can obtain a Photo copy of this costing 4€ from www.groireland.ie alternatively the Roman Catholic church records are due to be released online on 8th July for irish parishes.

www.nationalarchives.ie for Griffith Valuation records has 3 entries for name Martin Tobin but not helpful unless you know the name of the Parish etc.
