  • Dear Georgie

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I see that there is a marriage record for William and Bridget (Corrigan) on rootsireland. You should be able to see the original record on the NLI website: registers.nli.ie

They were married on 5th November 1846 at St. John's Parish. Both were from Kilmagar townland and parents' names were not recorded. Witnesses were Danial Tynan ( William's brother?) and Ally Byrne. As you say, Bridget was one of five children including; Mary, James, John and Michael.

I didn't see any listing for William in Griffith's Valuation.

    Best wishes

  • Hi Georgie,

I don't have information on Bridget Tynan but do have information on her mothers side of the family.  Her grandmother was Bridget Croak, my 2nd great grand aunt.  Bridget would be my 2nd cousin 2x removed.  She was a 1st cousin to Canon William Carrigan who wrote the four vol. History and Antiquities of the Diocese of Ossory.  I also show that she was one of nine children not five.

You can contact me at r.osgood@snet.net.  Are you on Ancestry.com?  If you are my tree is private but I can send you an invitation to view it.

I must apologise for not replying to you.

I've hardly looked at Ireland Reaching Out since I first registered my enquiries. I don't think I realised where to find responses. I fell ill in July 2015 and I guess, once that line of my research was interrupted, I just didn't follow that path again until now.

Since your post I have discovered more of Bridget Tynan's siblings - I have her as one of ten now. But I have two James' - one born 1849 and one born 1857. No doubt the first one died although I haven't discovered that record yet.

I can confirm Bridget, James (b. 1857) and Michael (priest) came to Australia. James fell from a bridge (believed drunk according to newspaper reports) and died in 1880. I believe Father Tynan returned to Ireland although I don't have much evidence supporting this yet. Bridget had one daughter out of wedlock (my great grandmother) and within a year was married to Sidney George Pegus with whom she had another ten children.

I was on Ancestry.com until recently when I decided I wasn't using it enough to justify the expense. When I have more time again I will re-join and if you're still happy for me to view your tree I'll take you up on the offer.

For now, I will keep your contact details in a safer place.

    Thank you again.
