Eddie McDonald was so gracious to us on our visit to Clonmore. I still cherish his article on the Riches of Clonmore.
My great-great grandfather, name of Patrick Swain (b. 1806) married Mary Farrell (m. 21 Feb 1841) and had a son Edward (b.27 Jan 1842). I believe they left Ireland in 1850. Mary's brother Valentine also crossed in about that time.
The tombstone in Clonmore mentions father John Swain (b.1763 d.1826) and wife Catherine (b.1788 d. 1846), erected by John Swain (b. 1805 d. 17 Nov 1882) of Ballaghaclay. Also in memory of brother Patrick, who died in 1854 [in America in New York State.]
The Farrells were from Red Bog. Are there any still in Ireland?

Hi Patricia, thanks for your message and interest in Ireland Reaching Out.
Have you tried tracing the Farrell side of your family tree? Perhaps doing this may help you find some descendants that are living today.
Some good sources of information include the National Library and the National Archives. Their websites are http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/ respectively.
You may be able to find some more informtion about Mary's family in the Tithe Applotment Books. These are land records that were compliled between 1823 and 1838 in Ireland. You can access these here:
http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
Have you checked Church Records for the Farrell family? Here is a link to the Irishtimes website that shows you what Roman Catholic Records are available for the parish of Clonmore.
Church of Ireland Records may be found at http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/
It may also be in your interest to check the Census records from 1901 and 1911 to see if there are any Farrells mentioned. You can do this here: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
I hope this helps you. If you do decide to visit Ireland again would you like to give us your trip details so that we can endeavour to source a volounteer to advise and assist you during your visit? You can do this at info@irelandxo.com
Kind regards
