I am looking for my great great grandfather Patrick Flynn, where he came from etc. Patrick left for Canada in 1834, he settled in a community called St. Margarets which is just outside of Chatham, N. B.

We have YDNA with a match of 66 out of 67 markers with a gentleman from Dublin, this makes us closley connected with what they call a genetic distance of 1. It is likely that we are related within the past 5 generations.

I am thinking that our Patrick is either a cousin or uncle of the grandfather of the gentleman I match YDNA with. The grandfather's name was William Flynn. William is said to have come from Emo, Co. Laois.

I am wondering if you have any information that would lead us to Patrick, he was born in 1806 from what we hear. Would there be a list of people who left for Canada somewhere in the local records?

Thanks

Bill

Col may have found the correct records for your Flynns but I need to point out that the Catholic parish for Erke civil parish is Galmoy. Records for that parish do not start until 1861.

The townland of Emo Park is in Coolbanagher civil parish and the related RC parishes are Emo where records start in 1875 and Mountmellick where records start in 1814.

Coolbanagher is in northeast Co. Laois and Erke parish is in southwest Co. Laois.
