Good day all,
My wife and I made a trip to Ireland in 2013. We visited Kilmaganny and the surrounding areas. I have some records placing my Grand mum in the townsip of "Glenn" in the 1900 census. Her name was Catherine Hurley (also seen her use Katherine Hurley). Her parents were Peter Hurley and Mary. I believe that Peter may have worked for his brother. I also know that Peter and Mary had other Children. One of them would be Richard. Unsure who the others may be. My grand mother left Ireland in the early 1900's. On our trip in 2013, we saw a grave marker near the Kells Priory inscribed with Hurley. Same Hurley family? We also visited another graveyard and found a number of Hurley graves. I couldn't place any of the names. A person in the village said we should send an email to Father Flavin and I lost the email address? Not sure if I spelled that right.
Any help with information would be appreciated.
Regards,
Shawn

Shawn,
This looks to be your family in 1901:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Kilkenny/Kilmaganny/Glen/1445967/
Peter, head of household, was a farmer then. So probably working for himself.
Here they are in 1911:

Note that they had 12 children altogether of which 9 were still alive at that time. Looking at Edward’s birth on 11.5.1893 at Kyle, I see the mother’s maiden name was Peters. Catherine was born 26.12.1887 at Kyle.
Peter died 11.11.1911 at Glen. His wife was the informant. Peter and Mary's marriage was registered in Thomastown Jan-Mar 1878.

Hello again,
Elwyn, thank you very much for the links. You jagged my memory about my great grand mums mainden name being Peters. I had heard that years ago. From what I can tell, my grand mum left Ireland after her father died. It shows her as not being part of the 1911 census. I have her listed on a manifest in 1912 coming through Ellis Island. Her marriage certificate here lists her last address as Carrick on Suir. She departed from Cork.
Casstlemore, thank you for the link. I see Father Flavin's email address on the page. Do the parishes do research of any type? My time on the last trip was limited so I could no do any research.
Warm Regards,
Shawn

Shawn:
Priests are very extended with parish duties. Possibly there is someone in the office who might look up a record but there not likely to do a lot of research.

Here is the link to the parish register from 1826-1881 http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0984 Maybe you can look up some family records. I'm also providing the link for the parish register for Aughaviller which is the parish to the east and where the 1878 marriage occurred http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0967
Below is a transcription from Roots Ireland of the 1878 civil marriage record that Elwyn highlighted. The record shows the names of the fathers of the bride and groom. For some reason the transcription of the civil marriage record showed Mary Peters as married. That must be a mistake. She was either unmarried or a widow.
