I found a birth record for a Michael Murphy born 30 June 1844 in Aghadoe.  Father Michael, mother Julia. I am looking for a Michael Murphy born around that time who emmigrated to the States and ended up in Michigan working as a miner.  He married a Bridgit, either Sheehey or Sheehan who was born around 1847 in what she said was Killarney, but she said Co. Cork, which I haven't been able to find.  Not sure if they married in America or Ireland but they were living in Michigan by 1870.

Thank you.

  • Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out Cathy!

Have you had a look on Rootsireland.ie and Irishgenealogy.ie for a record for the marriage? Roots is a subscription site but you can now subscribe for as little as 24 hours while irishgenealogy is a free site. Cork and Kerry records are shared between the two.

  • Thank you Clare.  I have used Irishgenealogy.ie and not found anything, but have not used Rootsireland.   So, arel Killarney and Kilkkenny the same?  Which County are they in?

  • Hi Cathy

Killarney and Kilkenny are in two different places. Killareny is in Co. Kerry and Kilkenny is a county in its own right.

If you Google a map of the counties of Ireland you will see where they are located; Kilkenny in the south-east and Killarney in the south
