I am trying to find information about the parents of Ellen Fitzpatrick who was born in 1821 in Goresbridge, Kilkenny. Her parents were James and Catherine Fitzpatrick. I have not been able to find more definite information about the parents. She moved to Australia and married Bernard McEwan. She died in Castlemaine, Victoria Australia on Feb 3 1896. I have found a record of an Ellen Fitzpatrick who was listed as a child's maid; she was convicted of stealing apparel and sentenced to transportation to Australia for 7 years (doc ref1: TR 3, p246). She was tried in Kilkenny on 10 April, 1840 (indent no 123). My only link here is her birth year.

Any help would be appreciated

    First I woulkd say keep a very open mind about her birth year.  Most people were uneducated, undocumented and had never even seen their name written down anywhere.

    Have you looked at www.rootsireland.ie .  this site holds many of the church records for the country.  The other site is www.irishgenealogy.ie which holds many of the remaining counties.

    1821 is very early for many counties which kept records.  Some records start around 1790 or so while others don't have records until 1830.

    The rootsireland site will give you the dates of when the records started in Co. Kilkenny.
