Ellen Walsh (nee Fitzpatrick) arrived in Australia about 1861 and according to her death certificate she spent 1 year in South Australia before moving to Victoria. The children on her death certificate are Mary Walsh b 1837, Catherine walsh b. 1839, Edward walsh b 1832, Bridget Walsh b 1843, Michael Walsh 1845. I know that Ellen ( My GG G'mother) and her daughter, Bridget (My G G'mother) came to Australia but have not been able to trace other family members. Ellen's birth calculated from her death certificate would be 1817 and her marriage to William Walsh in Kilkenny 1838. I presume she came here as a widow. She remarried in Victoria in 1862. Ellen's parents on her 2nd marriage certificate are Edward Fitzpatrick and Bridget Malony or Malone,or Moloy.

Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Teresa,

Thank you very much for your message. I hope that someone with information makes a connection with you and helps you to further your research.

However, it may be difficult to find information without a more specific place of origin. Most Irish record sources- church records, land records, census records- are based on specific locations. Until you know a specific location within Ireland, preferably a parish or placename, it may be difficult to do anything more with these records.

Do you have any documentation pertaining to the family that mentions any place names in Kilkenny  at all? This can include wills, marriage/death records, census records, letters, diary entries etc.

There are some places where you can search online, however it may be difficult to discern whether the results are relevant to your family or not without more information:

www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.

www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.

It may also be an idea to get in contact with Kilkenny Family History to see if they can be of any assistance, however please note that a fee may apply. Here is their email: kilkennyfamilyhistory@rothehouse.com

Some websites that you may find helpful in the meantime are:

Remember to post any new information that you find here. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

  • Thak you for your reply. No, I don't have any further info regarding Parish etc. I think I have found the children's baptism or birth on rootsireland. If I request one of the childrens records would that tell me the Parish or Townland. I will have another look on familysearch.

    Regards

  • Hi Treasa,

Thanks for getting back to me. Yes if you get the baptism record it will tell you what parish the children were baptised in.

    Regards,

    Emma

  • I purchased  the baptism record for Bridget Walsh in 1840  Address is Cashil parish BALLYHALE. I also found in the index, with the same parents, Catherine 1837, Edmund (or Edward) 1839, Michael 1842, but not Mary, the eldest. This corresponds with their Mother's death certificate although the ages are a couple of years out.

I would love to have contact with other related families.

    I live in Australia

    regards Annette
