Hi, my name is Frank Walsh and I Ilive in Newfoundland - my Great, Great Grandfather was Patrick Walsh who married Mary Bow in Newfoundland in 1835. The marriage record indicates that Patrick (and maybe Mary) was from "the parish of Rone, County Kilkenny". Am I safe in assuming that Paddy would simply refer to his home parish as "Rone" (shortened for Pollrone)? Your input would be greatly appreciated. (By the way Paddy was born around the 1790's).

I would agree that Pollrone makes sense.as the civil parish. You are in luck because the RC Church records for that parish go back to 1772 and are available on Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie
Roots is a pay site to view transcriptions of church records. I checked their indexes and there are records for 10 Patrick Walsh' baptisms from 1790-1800 in the Mooncoin RC church records. Mooncoin is the Catholic parish for Pollrone civil parish.
I also located this site which provides history of the parish including the 1821 census.
