Hello,

I did some research on my grandfather, Christopher Moran through Ancestry.com and I believe that he may be from/near Urlingford, Ireland. If I am correct, his parents were Owen Moran and Catherine Carrig (per Marriage certificate - 1897). My grandfather was born December 19, 1909 in Johnstown. His birth certificate is the only one that I can find when I researched him through Irish Genealogy so it may be him? Is there a way to determine if they had any more children? My grandfather came over (I believe by himself) when he was a young man.

I guess my purpose/intentions is to see if there are any family left in the area. I know my father visited family in Ireland after the Korean war (but he never said where) and I am hoping that they are still there.

Any tips or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Maureen

  • Hi Maureen,

There are no Morans in Urlingford in the irish phone book I'm afraid (www.118.ie/)

I found 2 siblings on www.rootsireland.ie/ (but not Christopher):

If this is the family in the 1901 Irish Census (free at census.nationalarchives.ie/) perhaps Owen worked away:

  • Thank you for your response it was extremely helpful. It would be nice to know the name of the church they were baptized? I see that it was in Warrenstown Parish? How would I go about locating the church and the baptism records?

  • I'm not a Kilkenny expert I'm afraid.

The records were civil - copies available from the General Register Office.

Couldn't find any churches in Warrenstown but there is an R C church in Urlingford

  • Thanks for the reply.

I continued my research but didn't get very far, however I did find that Michael Moran and Margaret Watson (Owen Moran's parents) were married in the Roman Catholic Chapel of Johnstown (Urlingford) in 1872 per civil records. I would like to find the original church if that is possible?

Thanks again for all the help!
