The Rock of Dunamase if a very big attraction in Laois.
Situated between Portlaoise and Stradbally it stands 45 metres high, and has tremendous views of Laois from its highest point.
Started as an early Christian dun, known as Dun Masc "the Fort of Masc"
It's said that Dun Masc was plundered by the vikings in 843 ad and the abbot of Terryglass was killed.
