The surnames above are a collection of some of my grandparents, great-grandparents and great-great grandparents who were born in Ireland in the early 1800's and emigrated to Canada at various times and locations. I have only become serious about our roots as my family grows up...as with many families surnames and history has got lost with death, remarriages and emigration...
If anyone has any connection or wishes to share any info...please do...
Slainte,
Mike

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Do you have any more information that you could share? Do you have forenames/relationships to go with these surnames? Do you have any more specific dates that you could share such as birth/marriage/emigration dates? Do you know which member of the family emigrated? If so what do you know about their emigration?
Do you know what religious denomination the family were? You may be able to find information on the family in the parish church records. Most Catholic records are held locally, you could try writing to the parish priest for possible assistance. One website which may be helpful is the irishtimes website. Here they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Annaduff parish follow this link:
For information on Church of Ireland records go to http://www.ireland.anglican.org/index.php?do=information&id=63
You could also search for some record of them in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Some other websites which may prove useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
Family Search: https://familysearch.org/
The Library & Archives of Canada - http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/index-e.html
I hope that this is helpful. Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Kind regards,

On your list is the name Faighan: I wonder if that is a corruption of Faughnan, very much a local name in this Parish.
Have you made any progress with your investigations?
