My ancestor was Acheson Black b.c 1817 who married as his 2nd wife, Jane Kelso b. Fivemiletown, Co. Tyronne, Ireland.

They had 3 girls and 2 boys -

Catherine (bdate unknown),

Rebecca b. c 1843 (emigrated to New Zealand c 1960 and married David Heron Chalmers in Milton Otago),  Rebecca d. 1901 at Seacliff, Otago, NZ.

Francis b. c 1845 (emigrated to New Zealand with his sister, and married a younger sister of David Chalmers, Euphemia Aiken Chalmers.  Francis d. 1918 Henley, Otago, NZ.

William James . b.31 Dec 1849, Emigrated to Pennsylvania, and married, in 19 Sep 1878 at Pittsburgh, to Thesea Jane Swyers.  I have met their descendands in Pennsylvania, while on a trip to Pa in 2003.

Mary Anne. (dates unknown)

We have quite an extensive tree on this family, who were all living in the area for a good number of years, and are still.  Not poor people as they had a 'big' house, we have a photograph of the property.

Acheson built a good house for each of his children, as had his father before.

Any information would be appreciated.  I have used the Fermanagh Gold site to some advantage, also several other websites for the area. But any help at all is welcome.

  • Hi Ali,

    Thanks again for your message.

I hope that someone with information on this family makes a connection with you and can help you with your research.

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,
