My Grandmother Elizabeth Gilgun was born in Blacklion, Co Cavan in 1895. Her parents, Myles Gilgun and Margaret Regan, were both born and were married in Leitrim. I believe they were from Cloonclare. I was hoping someone might be able to provide me with more information about these two families. Thank you.

Harvey:
In 1901 the family was living in Cornahan townland in Killinagh civil parish.

I was unable to find the family in the 1911 census in either Cavan or Leitrim.
I did locate the 1882 civil marriage index record for the marriage of Myles and Margaret. The actual record will show the names of the fathers of the bride and groom and where the bride and groom were living in 1882. You can get a copy from the General Register Office for around 4 euros. if you are interested let me know and I will forward instructions.

Hi Dorothy, my email address is harveyb47@yahoo.com. My grandmother left Ireland for Massachusetts in 1902. What was your grandmother’s name?

Her name was Alice Gilgun. Records we have seen, if correct, show her parents as Miles Gilgun and Margaret Reagan and they were married in Leitrim. They lived in Cavan after that.
