I am hoping to find reference to Thomas Rooney c1830 and his family prior, perhaps born in Cloonclare. His son, Robert John Rooney c1858 married Margaret Patterson 1861, in Cloonclare in 1882. Any info, however tenuous, would be greatly appreciated.

    I checked the 1901 census for Glenboy and only found one Rooney family headed by a Sarah Rooney who was a 60 year old widow. Possibly she was the wife of Thomas? I checked the 1857 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Cloonclare and their were a number of Rooneys including a Thomas in Glenboy. By the way, I could not find Robert and Margaret in the 1901 census. Did they emigrate before 1901? Finally, I looked at www.familysearch.org for a death index record for Thomas Rooney in the Manorhamilton registration district. I found an 1899 record for a Thomas born in 1836.

    If you think this may be your Thomas, you can contact the GRO www.groireland.ie to get a copy of the record. Fill out their form and provide the quarter/year of death, registration district and the volume and page number ( 2 and 152). Cost around 4 euros.
