I am searaching for the famiy left in Ireland of both the Patterson's and the Fallon's of County Leitrum. They immigrated first to Canada and then the United States in the mid 1850's. John Patterson, his wife and children plus his in -laws all came together. John always said that he was born in Dunkeernan, County Leitrum. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Do you know the names of any family members that remained in Ireland? You may be able to find record of them in Church records form the parish. Most Catholic records are still held locally so it may be an idea to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website which you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Inishmagrath parish follow this link:
For Church of Ireland records check http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ for information.
Some Catholic and C of I records are also available online at www.familysearch.org
Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so you may be able to find records here also. These records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin, however you can search the indexes to these records online at https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347
For more information on Civil records go to http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/Irish-civil-registration.html
You could also check Griffith?s Valuation to see if you can find record of Fallons and Pattersons in the area. This is a property valuation survey that was carried out between 1848 and 1864. Although it doesn?t offer any genealogical information it will let you know if these families were still in the area at a specific time. You can search these here:
http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
The latest records that you can check online are the 1901/1911 census records. These can be found here: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
Some other websites that you may find useful are:.
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
Genealogy links: http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/leitrim/index.html
You could also contact Leitrim Genealogy Centre for some assistance, however a fee may apply. Here are their contact details:
Leitrim Genealogy Centre,
Ballinamore,
Co. Leitrim.
Phone: +353 (0) 71 9644012 Email:info@leitrimroots.com
I hope some of these suggestions are helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,

Just joined so only catchinf up. If its any help my great grandmother Catherien Fallon married John judge who was from the townland of Corraweehil Glebe near Dowra County Leitrim. They married in Glasgow having romantically joined up after her family objected to the relationship, this is family lore.I don't know which townland Catherine came from but on griffiths Valuation there are a number of Fallon's mostly over two townlands quite near to each other and similarly near my GGrandfather's townland. They lie between the towns of Drumkeeran and Dowra in County Leitrim.
It may be a starting point.
