I am researching my maternal Grandfather's and Grangmother's family. My grandfather was Hugh Judge born in the townland of Corraweehil Glebe outside Dowra in . His father was John Judge who lived in the same house until his death on th13th Sept 1929 aged about 78years his first wife was Catherine Fallon and his second wife was Mary Curneen or Kiernan. His father was Bartly Judge of the same address, he died on th19th July 1882 aged about 80years.My Grandfather settled in Falkirk,Scotland around1898 after his father re-married, he married Bridget McMorrow from the townland of Moneenatieve in Drumkeeran in Falkirk in 1904.
My grandfather had abrother called Bartly who also spent most of his life in Falkirk, a sister called Mary Anne, I 'm not sure where she lived, and several half siblings, Katie or Babe Judge and Tom who lived nearby until the early to mid 70s both of whom I met.. There was also a Celia Judge and a Teresa (Tess) who left home Celia to USA and Tess to England in early part of the 20th century.
My Grandmother Bridget McMorrow's father was Hugh of Moneenatieve who married an Anne O'Brian and his father was Paul Patrick McMorrow (both names appearing on marriage and birth certificates) who married Anne Flynn. My Grandmother had 2 brothers Martin and Frances and a sister called Mary Anne who all married in the Falkirk area.
If anyone has information that confirms what I know or reaches back further in the past or sideways to cousins then I would be very much obliged. I would also like to know where Celia and Mary Anne Judge went.

Hello hughismc,
Unfortunately, I cannot help you with the Leitrim branch of the Judge family. My great great grandfather was John Judge from Roscrea Co. Tipperary. My grandmother was Alice Judge McAuliffe and her father's name was Hugh John Judge, born in New Orleans LA USA in 1861. The John Judge from Roscrea was his father. By 1850 John Judge was living in St. Bernard Parish (just outside of New Orleans) with his brothers William, James and Denis according to US census. He married Anne Kelly in New Orleans in 1858, but by then they already had three children born in New Orleans. Apparently, there was a bond money requirement for foreigners to get legally married.
My Grandmother, Alice Judge married John Miles McAuliffe in 1912; they named their second son (my uncle) Hugh Judge McAuliffe. The first born son was my father, John McAuliffe. I have not been able to find a Hugh Judge in Ireland related to my Roscrea GG grandfather, John Judge so I don't know how the name Hugh first appeared in my family. I believe I have located a current Judge cousin in Dublin and we might be able to meet when I am in Dublin in June, 2014.
My GG grandfather, John Judge, became a US citizen in 1853 and by 1862 he was a soldier in the Confederate Army fighting in the Civil War; he was a prisoner of war from May 1864 until the end of the War in 1865. My Dublin cousin's John Judge was a Union Soldier who was killed in May 1864; his wife was pregnant at the time and after the son was born in August 1864, she and the child returned to Ireland. Family history is so interesting!
Good luck with your search for the Judges of Inishmagrath.
Mary McAuliffe

Hugh,
I have read your post but am unable to guess which Judge was born in Ireland? I don't know any of these placenames of which you speak. Are they in Ireland or Scotland?
Can you post which Judge you think was born in Ireland? Whaere were the wives from? It's all so confusing.
Look forward to hearing from you,
Anne

Hugh and Bartly judge were from the townland of Corraweehil Glebe near Dowra, County Leitrim, Ireland and settled in Falkirk in central Scotland. Hugh married Bridget McMorrow of the townland of Moneenatieve near Drumkeeran, Leitrim having met her in Falkirk.
Bartly Judge married Agnes Hainey from the Falkirk area, I think she was Scottish but perhaps with Irish roots.
Both brothers spent the remainder of their lives in Falkirk. BArtly had sons and grandsons so the name is still around the Falkirk area. All Hugh's descedents come through his daughters. Most live in the Falkirk area.
