I am trying to find infomration on the family of my great great grandmother, Bridget Quirke. She was born Jan 1831. She is strongly connected with and somehow related to Jane Wilson born about 1812 in Kings County (Offaly). Jane married Michael V. Molloy also of Kings County (Offaly) and also born about 1812.We have no knowledge of the Quirke family and would love to know more about them Thank you. Jane McGarvey

Jane:
I looked on the Roots Ireland indexes for a baptismal record for Bridget Quirke in the Eglish RC records. The only record I located was one in 1836. The parents were Darby and the first name for the mother was shown as M.
I also located an 1827 Tithe Applotment record for a Darby Quirk listed in Brocara townland. There is no current townland with that spelling. Possibly the townland is Ballynacurra.

The 1853 Griffiths for Eglish parish showed two Quirke in Drinagh townland.

Thank you so much for your reply. I just found the same information about Darby Quirk that you found because someone from the Offaly History Center sent me an index of baptisms in the parish of Eglish that arrived today in the post.
It's a shame that the baptismal date for this Bridget Quirk is 1836 because her mother's name in the index "M. Mulloy", ties in with the knowledge I have that my Bridget Quirk was related to the Molloy family from County Offaly. Eveything fits except the baptismal date !
I'm not sure how to proceed from here with my investigation.
Do you have any thoughts?
Thanks again--Jane

I assume that you have other data that eliminates 1836 as her year of birth?
By the way, this summer the National Library of Ireland plans to put the RC parish registers online for free searching. Maybe when you look at the Eglish records you will find the record around 1831. Handwriting legibility does make it difficult when they transcribe records.

Dear Roger-
Thank you for the heads up about the RC Church putting their parish registers on line this summer.
Bridget Quirke's death certificate says she died in 1901 and was 70 years old. That is the most compelling written evidence I have of her birth date.
Thanks again--Jane
