I have been searching for info on my gggrandparents Patrick McGlinn and Katharine Guckien , both from Co Leitrim. I suspect they were from South Co. Leitrim and maybe the Mohill/Drummard/Dromard or Bornacolla area because of surname distribution and family lore has has my ggrandfather John Paul being born along the banks of the Shannon ( quite poetic ). Patrick was born in 1797 and Katharine was born in 1802. John Paul was born in 1845. The family emigrated to the US ca. 1852, first to Hamilton Co. Ohio and a few years later to Logansport, Indiana. My ggrandfather John Paul was probably the youngest of 8 children and he went to Washington Territory as a young man to work as an Indian agent at Neah Bay with the Makah tribe. He eventually setteled in Laconnor, Wa. built the McGlinn House hotel and married Elizabeth Benn, born in Ontario, Canada and of Irish descent and they had 6 children, Thad my grandfather, John, Leo, Robert, Mary Eva and Winnifred. John Paul lost all contact with his family who probably remained in the Indiana area. I do not know who in the family emigrated to the US but Anna and Kate McGlynn, who are probably daughters are buried in the family plot in the Mt Hope Cemetary in Logansport, Indiana. Any help, connections or info would be of great help to me. I hope I can go to the Ireland XO. I'm making plans but don't know yet if it will be possible.

Hi,
Guckien is a common name in Annaduff, Mohill & Bornacoola parishes. Annaduff & Bornacoola certainly have Shannon banks...
Do come and visit and we will see what we can discover...

Dear ORCAS06
I am a descendant of Patrick and Katherine too! Their daughter Bridget Theresa O'Donnell is my great, great Grandmother. She was born in County Leitrim and traveled to America around 1849. She met James O'Donnell in Ohio (He is from County Sligo) They moved to Carroll County Indiana. My Great Grandmother Ellen Agnes O'Donnell Willey was their daughter.
One of the mysteries is how some of them spelled their last name McGlinn or McGlynn or Mcglinn. The maiden sisters are buried with the parents, Anna and Kate. Anna passed away at my great grandmother's home. If you look at the Mount Hope cemetery site you will see a note about this with Anna McGlinn.
If you have any photos or other information about the brothers and sisters of John Paul and Bridget, I would love it! They did have a sister named Ellen McGlinn Martin. Her grandson is James Hanley who wrote Back Home Again in Indiana and Second Hand Rose (for Fannie Brice)
Bridget had a famous son named Patrick H. O'Donnell. He was famous for outting KKK members and starting the law school at Loyola in Chicago with three other lawyers.
Let me know if you got this message. Thanks, Jenny Jones

Hi Cousin Jennifer
What a pleasant surprise today when I checked the Leitrim message board on IrelandXO and saw your post. At last I have
found a connection to my long lost McGlinn family in Indiana. My ggrandfather John Paul and your ggrandmother Brigitt
were siblings so I guess we are like 3/4x cousins. Gets kind of confusing after a few generations. I don't have much info on
the McGlinns in Ireland but maybe I have located where they lived in Leitrim via Griffiths Valuation which was a list of all owners
and renters in Ireland during and after the famine. The land is near Roosky, Roscommon but in Leitrim. McGlinn and
Guckian surnames are not very common and I do not know if all the family migrated to the US.
I was born and raised in Washington St. and have been living in Costa Rica, Central America for many years. I would like to
keep in touch with you so we can exchange family histories. I am including my email and you can get in touch with me if you
are interested. sdmcglinn@yahoo.com
Cheers Cuzin Steve
