Myles Deignan (Duignan), my GG-Grandfather and his wife Bridget lived in Mohill parish, Killamaun Townland since at least 1850. From my research, many of their children, including Elizaberh, Katherine, Bridget, and Jane emmigrated to New York City starting in the 1880s. Myles died in 1890 in Mohill; his wife probably died 1905-1911.

Are there descendents in Ireland?

Can anyone give me direction on finding more about Myles, Bridget, and their parents?

Is there a good resource on what life was like in Mohill during the 1800s?

  • Hi

Do you know much about their emigration? Dates, the reason why they left, etc.? Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at (e.g. Liverpool), this could be a good place to find more information.

Have you checked http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/ or http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp for other relatives?

There are several local histories for Leitrim. You can view some of them here: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/counties/index.cfm?fuseaction=…

The site is also very useful if you 'Browse' resources/available records for Letrim.
