Thomas West(1825-11 July 1900) and Mary (Confrey)  West(1825-bet 1864&1877) are my gggrandparents.  They were married 15 Feb 1847 in Mohill Parish.  They had 7 children that I know about:  Bridget Ann (1851-after 22 May  1925) who married James Murphy  30 Mar 1868 and remained in Ireland;  James E. (my ggrandfather); Mary Ann; William Henry;  Alice (1861-?) may have remained in Ireland; Esther Jane;  and Margaret .  Other than Bridget Ann and Alice , the others came to the USA. 

I am looking for information about Thomas West--parent or sibling names.  I know he died in Lisomedaun, Leitrim. Living at the same residence was Alice (Confrey) Cox .  I want to find the burial site of Thomas and Mary (Confrey) West and Mary's death date.

Also, I am looking for information on Bridget Ann (West) Murphy and children:  Thomas (1872-?); Mary Ann who moved to the USA;  Elizabeth (1877-?); and James (1874-?) .

  • My name is Teresa Lennon from Fenagh Visitor Centre in Fenagh, Co Leitrim.  Your first stop should be theLeitrim Geneaology Centre - they have a database online of all births,deaths,marriages in Co Leitrim. you need to register on the website and follow directions on how to search for your relatives- the website is www.leitrimroots.com or you can call them on 00353 71 9644012.  They have another website www.rootsireland.ie which may prove useful.

  • Thank you, Teresa,  for your suggestions.  I have visited both sites and reviewed the LDS film for the Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnois, Mohil Parish.  From the film I found marriage and  baptism records for the children of Thomas and Mary (Confrey) West.  I also found an 1887 land records.  I am trying to find parent names or siblings of Thomas West.  Are there any West families living in Mohil or Lisemadaun (where Thomas died)?

    Bridget (West) married my great grandfather James Murphy. They lived in Shivdella, Gorvagh.My grandfather Owen Murphy held the land until his death. My uncle Tom (the black doctor) got the farm- he died several years ago. Currently the farm is held by my first cousin Rita Mulholland. Her mom, my aunt Jane (Murphy) Mulholland died April of 2015 outside of Mohill.  I have attached the 1901 Census. Owen's (my granddad's older brothers)-Thomas et al left for England- no one ever heard from them- truly the ship that never returned.
