I am trying to find a family named Huren or Heeren (the writing is pretty bad and I'm not sure of the spelling). In the U.S. 1900 Census for Rhode Island I found a Thomas Huren (or Heeren) living with my ancestors, he was listed as a cousin. The name does not mean anything to me so I suspect his mother was either a Fox or a Smith from County Leitrim. The census report says Thomas was born in 1880 and he was single in 1900. He had been in the USA for about 1 year. I have tried searching for Huren or Heeren on websites here and they keep changing the name to Horan and variations of that name. If anyone can search for a birth of a Thomas Huren/Heeren/ Horan whoses mother's maiden name was either Fox or Smith I would appreciate it. I have not had any success and I can't find any trace of Thomas after the 1900 census in Rhode Island.
Thank you in advance.

Mary:
I looked at the 1901 census for Oughteragh parish and found two Heran and one Hearon families in the parish. I also located an 1878 civil birth index record for a Thomas Heeran in the Mohill registration district which includes Oughteragh parish. The birth was registered in the July-September qtr. Vol.3 page 226. Possibly this is the Thomas you are looking for. You can get a copy of this record from the General Register Ofice for around 4 euros. The record would show his mothers maiden name.
