I am looking for any information on Daniel Leahy born about 1816 and married in 1836 to Bridget Geaney. They resided in Seeconglass. I believe Daniel may have had brothers David, Maurice and James.I know his daughters married Lynch's, Mulcahys and Finigans. My GGrandfather also named Daniel, born 1856 married Hanora Finigan about 1880. She was the daughter of Denis.

I can find nothing on Bridget Geaney . Any info on this family especially the Geaneys would be greatly appreciated.

Thanking you in advance,

Daniel Leahy

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I was able to locate the civil marriage record for the younger Daniel but not the older Daniel. See below. They were married in the Mount Collins church. The 1832 Tithe listings for Killeedy parish show two Geaney records. Possibly one was the father of Bridget. The parish records for Killeedy RC parish start in 1840 so if Daniel and Bridget were married in that parish a record would not be available. The 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Killeedy parish showed two Geany records.

  • Thanks for the quick info.I will research Daniel Geaney from Caherlevoy as he seems like he may be the best guess. If anyone else knows the Leahys from Seeconglass please add your two cents.I am wondering if there is a Cork or Brosna connection?

Batt Leahy of the Lenihan farm seems like a likely hit.

    Thanks

    Dan Leahy

  • Dan, I seem to meet your ID dleahyjr a lot on another site where I have uploaded a Leahy/Buckley Family Tree. We obviously have come common ground which I am keen to explore. I have been looking at the Leahy clan from Rockchapel, Cork. Brian Buckley. (if you're interested we can find a simple way to communicate)

  • Hello,

I have a David Leahy who had a daughter, Margaret. She married John Patrick Harnett in February 1866. Is this a connection? I'd love to connect the dots. I also have some Buckleys

  •                                     Recently I have had a DNA hit on David Lane and Mary Ann Leahy of Mountcollins Limerick Ireland. It is stated that Mary Anns parents owned the Post Office in Mountcollins and she was born there about 1861.If anyone has info on her parents I would be greatly appreciate the information.Mary Anns father is assumed to be Maurice Leahy and her mother a Curtin.Thanking you in advance for your information. If you do not want to leave a public message I can be reached at leahy.d@comcast.net

  • Bridget Geaney who was married to Daniel Leahy of Seconglas was a sister to Dan Geaney.  Dan Geaney died towards the end of the famine around 1850 when his wife and family were evicted from their farm.  They were taken in by Bridget Geaney Leahy an aunt to the children.  The original Leahy house in Seconglas was occupied by their descendants until 2016.  As a kid growing up in Mountcollins I often visited the Leahy Home in Seconglas as I knew I was related to them. Daniel Geaney was my great- great-grandfather.

  •      Hi and thanks for the reply.Would you know if Bridget Geaney was married to a Curtin before being married to Dan Leahy?I have found numerous records of Dan Leahy married to Bridget Curtin in Monagea Parish and nothing on Geaney except in Milford NH. Additionally would you know where they were born and parents? Would Michael Geaney married to bridget Odonnell be a relation and possibly a brother to both?Thats all for now.

    Thanks
