Looking for info onTobias Spearin, maybe spelled different.Born 1812 Ballysteen Askeaton,Limerick County.Died 1906,buried at Ballaglish,Pallaskenry.Spent his life there,i believe.Married to   Ellen Flood. He had a son Tobias as well, came to canada ,then to Australia.

His brother James, born 1814 came to Canada,i'm a decendant of him.Other brothers are John,1804,Luke1810,sister margaret.

it's possible there are two more brothers who stayed in Ireland,Tom,and George?

I would be really interested in the name of the father of this family.Maybe George?

I wonder about Tobias's gravesite?

I hope i'm on the right parrish

thanks Howard

The 1901 census shows him in Ballyaglish townland in Iveruss civil parish which is northwest of Adare parish and closer to the Shannon. The spelling on the census record was Speiran.

I located the civil death index record and as you indicated he died in 1906. The year of birth was provided by the informant who may have guessed when he was born.

I also looked at the 1826 Tithe Applotment listings for Iveruss parish and there were no Spearins but there were records for Samual and William Sparling. Could be a different family but maybe not.

By the way RC church records for Askeaton parish do not start until 1829.

  • Thanks Roger
Do I need to post on another parrish for more info or is it seen by everyone?
Sparlings is another family name.I've read that they were Palatines. Also read that Spearins were not but were living close to them.I see Sparlings immigrated to Ontario to the same area as Spearins.
I see a George Speiran on 1901 census I think this is Tobias's oldest son,the only one to stay in Ireland as well.
    Thanks Howard

No need to post in the Iveruss parish page. All posts go to the main message board.

  • Tobias Speiran,

Ballaglish is also in Askeaton Ballysteen Parish, not Pallaskenry.
