I am looking for a Bridget Dwyer who married a John Kearney/Carney, sometime around 1828. This is when my G3 grandma Margaret Slavin (Kearney) 1828-1917 was born in County Limerick. She married Michael Slaven on February 1, 1865 in Geelong, Vic.

I have found a reference to a john and Bridget Carney in Adare:

Baptism Records (Complete) for Kilmaley Parish, 1842

Feb. Carney John James Barry Kate John and Bridget Carney (sponsors) Gortaganniff

is a maiden name available for this Bridget?

Any information you can provide on either Bridget, John or the Kearney families in Adare would be much appreciated

regards, Mary

  • Dear Mary

Welcome to Ireland Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

There is a marriage record for a John Kearney married to a Bridget Dwyer on 11-Feb-1819  in the parish of Hospital and Herbertsown, Co. Limerick. Unfortunately neither set of parents are recorded on the marriage record. The couple had the following children: John baptised 30-Aug-1820, Maurice baptised 03-Jan-1824, Thomas baptised 05-Jun-1826 and possibly Kate baptised 23-May-1835.I could not locate a baptism record for Margaret.

    What do you think?

  • Thank you Clare, this is encouraging. If there was a Margaret it would be perfect. Could you please point me to where you found  the record for Kate?

Also are you able to make sense of the parish name for John Kearney in the manuscript? What I read doesn't seem to exist.

    Warm regards Mary

  • Hi Mary

If you go to rootsireland.ie (a subscription site) you will be able to see the details of the above baptism. The RC parish of Hospital where the couple married is in the civil parish of Ballinard.

    Hope this helps

    Best wishes
